Favourite food so far : This is a difficult one — how do you choose just one?! I do enjoy southeast Asian cuisine a lot, so I’d have to say the street food in Thailand is close to the top of my list. I also have a special spot in my tummy for authentic Korean Fried Chicken and Kimbap from Busan, South Korea!
Favourite city so far: There’s no place in the world that has the pulse and energy found in New York City. Cliche it may seem, but any place where you can wander around on foot for hours at a time and encounter something new at every corner is worth special recognition.
Favourite terrain: I’m a sucker for a good hike, where the reward is a scenic vista and or a panoramic view that will take my breath away. I also enjoy being close to water. Whether it’s the the ocean, a sea or a lake (or let’s face it, a waterfall), I find I’m happiest and most at peace by the water.
Most recent trip: I visited England and travelled around North Yorkshire for about a week. I was lucky in that I had someone with me who had access to a car, and who was familiar with the area. We drove around the countryside and visited places on my my travel bucket list — places I had only read about in Victorian novels. It was a very happy trip!
Upcoming trip: A road trip around Ireland at the end of April. I can’t wait!
Solo or group travel: Also another difficult question, but the answer is both… for different reasons. It also depends on where I’m going and who’s travelling with me.
Item purchased at every stop: Earrings. And a fridge magnet (I aim for every city, but definitely get one for every country I visit).
Favourite gifts from friends who travel: Postcards with messages to me! I can’t get enough of them — especially when they’re sent while my friends are on the road.
Three essential clothing items while on the road: A soft scarf, a warm sweater, and clean socks. (I’m always cold!)
Camera of choice while on the road: Android phone (Sony) and Nikon DSLR.
Travelling vices: Chocolate. And wine. Pretty much my regular vices.
Favourite travel quote: Oh gosh, there are so many! But for right now, in this moment, if I had to pick one, it would be this:
“And if travel is like love, it is, in the end, mostly because it’s a heightened state of awareness, in which we are mindful, receptive, undimmed by familiarity and ready to be transformed. That is why the best trips, like the best love affairs, never really end.”
